일러스트레이터 소개
중국계 미국인으로 미국 뉴욕의 한 시골 마을에서 자랐다. 로드아일랜드 대학교에서 일러스트레이션을 공부한 뒤, 자신의 경험을 바탕으로 소박하고 진솔한 작품들을 써 내 전 세계 독자들에게 큰 사랑을 받고 있다. 동양적인 판타지의 신비로운 세계를 한껏 펼쳐 보인 장편동화 『산과 달이 만나는 곳』으로 2010년 ‘뉴베리 상’을 수상했다. 또한 달의 주기를 매혹적인 이야기로 풀어내고 환상적인 일러스트레이션을 직접 그린 『달케이크』로 2019년 ‘칼데콧 상’을 수상하여, 가장 권위 있는 미국의 양대 아동도서상을 모두 받은 작가가 되었다. 그 밖이 지은 책으로는 『별이 흐르는 하늘의 강』, 『첫눈 오는 날』, 『빨간실』 등이 있다.
