Charles Santore 1935년 미국 필라델피아에서 태어났다. 광고와 잡지 일러스트, 그림책을 넘나들며 일러스트레이터 오리지널 아트 연합에서 수여하는 금메달, 해밀턴 킹 어워드 등 많은 상을 받았다. 그의 작품은 뉴욕 현대미술관과 필라델피아 자유도서관에 소장되어 있다. 대표작으로는 『이솝 이야기』 『오즈의 마법사』 등이 있다.
