The interplay between words and pictures, between the four panels in which the separate stories play out, and between readers and the text is quite clever. These interplays push Black and White past the boundaries of traditional illustrated stories into the realm of comics art. David MacAulay"s handling of the simultaneous narratives is awe-inspiring.
